Gokul Bakshi (born 1991) studied sculpture at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY (2014) earning a bachelors of science with a concentration in fine art. His various works as a student of sculpture are on display at the college campus.
After completing an exchange program at Glasgow School of Art, Gokul went on to practice Jewellery making at Brooklyn Metal Works in NYC following which he completed a diploma at Alchimia: School for Contemporary Jewelry in Italy.
Gokul has established his studio practice in his home in New Delhi ever since his arsenal of tools, which had been missing in transit for 3 years, mysteriously arrived at his doorstep in 2018.
Craft is paramount. The house of Urso dwells around the cauldron of transforming and combining ingredients. A place for craftsmen to find their expression and be given a place where the love for their work can flow.
My work seeks to find a flow within the facilities and styles that are available to me. There is something to be said about the way we connect with what is around us that informs our work and builds an intricate narrative.
A function of the process re-imagines error as textural markers of growth and risk the artist takes in making the work. Storing the past of a piece, how it was processed, it's birthmarks.
